I have watched various horror film trailers to do some research and to get some Ideas.
Below are my results.
The first trailer I looked at was the 1984 film "Nightmare on Elm street" and I concluded
that they don't show much of Freddy Krueger so this keeps him a mystery of sorts.
However they do show some of his murders and make audiences want to see more.
The second trailer I looked into was the 1981 film "Friday 13th part 2" and this one was
quite unique to other movie trailers as it did a rather humorous death count every time
Jason killed someone which also built up plenty of tension and drama even for just
the trailer.
The third trailer I looked into was for the 1974 film "The Texas chainsaw massacre". This
trailer used loads of sudden jump cuts showing off various shots of the killer
Leatherface which contrasts with the "Nightmare of Elm" street trailer in which the killer wasn't shown very often. There is also a man with a deep serious voice narrating throughout
the trailer.
The fourth and final trailer I looked at was for the 1978 film "Halloween" and this one
follows the killer Michael Myers it also uses various jump cuts between various murders
it also shows some of Michael's backstory. However the trailer never lets you get a
clear look at him as an adult as you only see his shadow and silhouette this leaves a
feeling of suspense. There also appears to be a minor narration at the start of the trailer
giving minor exposition.
In my group I am the editor so I will have to splice together different clips to make the
full trailer. I have decided to do some research into horror movie editors I decided to
first look into the 2003 movie "Freddy vs Jason" and I found out that the editor is
Mark Stevens. He was responsible for splicing the clips together to make the full length film.
I also looked into Michael Kahn who is the editor on numerous films, most of which are directed by Steven Spielberg, for example, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. He has also done Raider's of the Lost Ark and Twister which means he did the editing of various popular films over the years. His first edited film was "The secret of the unicorn" He also did the editing for "Saving private Ryan" another popular film making him very successful and good at his job.
Michael Kahn's work appeals to me for 3 reasons: The first of which is he's done a lot of work with Steven Spielberg who he himself is a very successful director. Secondly he is very versatile with the films he has edited though he seems prefer films in the action genre as most of the films he does edit fit into that genre. Finally he is the most nominated editor in Academy Awards history with 8 nominations which shows his skill in editing.
I think Michael would like to do an action movie because the majority of movies he has edited were a part of the action genre so it is his specialty.
